PCB collaborates with Facebook for live broadcast of PSL6 matches

The remaining matches of the sixth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) are set to return from June 9 in Abu Dhabi, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is making efforts to ensure all PSL fans can watch live matches directly on their cell phones or desktop windows.

PCB is collaborating with Facebook to bring the event to the global audience via the platform’s Paid Online Events.

However, the live matches won’t be available to watch for free.

Facebook Paid Online Events, through which the matches will be broadcasted live, will help PCB monetize the matches by requiring fans to pay a nominal one-time sign-up fee to access the live broadcast. After one-time payment, the broadcast can be watched anytime.

PCB Head of Broadcast Rights and Business Development, Shoaib Naveed said, “Providing fans ease of access and enhancing the viewership of Pakistan cricket globally is a main feature of our broadcast strategy and part of the PCB overall Digital Transformation aims”.

“This partnership for the remaining matches of HBL PSL 6 with Facebook has provided us with a unique platform, and it’s great to be partnering with the largest social media platform in the world”, he added.

The official statement issued in this regard said that Facebook’s sports partnerships team works closely with PCB, and other organizations in Pakistan “to help them achieve their fan growth and engagement, as well as monetization goals using Facebook’s platform and products”.

Aside from Paid Online Events, the social media company is also working with PCB to establish various on platform business opportunities and safety aspects for their players.

In this regard, in March 2021 the company had hosted a training program for the Pakistan women’s national team to help them understand and unlock the value of online presence, along with the safety measures.
