Pakistan records 3.58 per cent covid-19 positivity rate on Friday, lowest in in three months

Pakistan has reported its lowest coronavirus positivity rate in three months at 3.58 per cent on Friday, according the the latest stats provided by the National Command and Operation Centre.

As per the details, a total of 1,893 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours, after 52,859 coronavirus tests were conducted across the country.

83 deaths were also reported during the same time period, taking the death toll in the country to 21,105, while the total number of cases is 928,588. Meanwhile, 856,005 people have recovered from the virus after 3,431 recovered from it in the last 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours, Punjab has reported 401 covid-19 cases and 52 deaths, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 296 coronavirus cases and 12 fatalities, Balochistan reported 106 coronavirus cases and two deaths, Islamabad reported 94 cases, AJK reported 44 cases and 1 death, while Gilgit-Baltistan reported 15 cases.

Fake WHO message circulating on WhatsApp

The Ministry of National Health Services has alerted the citizens of Pakistan that a message falsely attributed to World Health Organization (WHO) is circulating on WhatsApp claiming the UN agency has taken a U-turn on its findings on the coronavirus pandemic.

“WHO admitted its mistake completely taking a U-turn, saying that corona is a seasonal virus. It is a cold sore throat [sick] during the season change,” the fake message read.

The ministry while highlighting the fake message in a picture on Twitter, wrote that the news is fake and WHO has not issued any such statement. The ministry also said that by following SOPs, we have somewhat managed to keep the virus spread in control.

“Always believe in the news coming from authentic sources”, the tweet added.

302,284 vaccinated against coronavirus

A total of 302,284 people have received the covid-19 vaccination in Faisalabad district. District Health Officer, Dr Ata ul Munim said on Friday that 218,518 citizens had been given the first dose while 53,890 were administered second dose of the vaccine.

He further said that 17,556 health workers were also given first dose whereas 12,320 received second dose of vaccine.

“As of now, 37,260 first doses and 24,840 second doses of vaccine were in the stock at Faisalabad”, he added.

Peshawar hospitals record reductions in coronavirus patients

Peshawar hospitals are seeing a decline in the number of active patients.

Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) is only treating 52 patients at the moment against the virus. While 13 patients were under treatment at the ICU.

Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) has 103 people under treatment. The hospital has a capacity of 204 patients. The total number of ventilators at the hospital was 68 of which 38 were reserved for the coronavirus patients.

At the Lady Reading Hospital, 132 out of 517 beds reserved for coronavirus patients were in use, along with 14 patients that are at the ICU and on ventilators.

Global case load

Globally, the covid-19 caseload has now surged past 172 million, while over 3,698,371 deaths have been reported so far, as per latest figures shared by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

The US, the worst-hit country in the world, crossed 33 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, as per the Johns Hopkins data.

India is second in cases at 28.6 million, and third by fatalities at 340,702. Brazil is third with 16.8 million cases, and second in deaths at 469,388.
